As testimony to its popularity, the Stihl MS170 chainsaw has been in Stihl’s chainsaw range for many years. The MS170 chainsaw is the perfect entry level model for homeowners wanting to cut firewood.
The Stihl MS170 uses Stihl’s economical 2-MIX engine. The 30.1cc engine generates 1.2kW / 1.6hp which, combined with the 12” (30cm)* guide bar and chain, gives great performance for logging.
The Stihl MS170 is easy to start and the main Off-On-Choke control lever is easy to operate and conveniently placed.
The MS170’s engine is fitted with a compensator to ensure that the engine keeps running at peak performance even when the air filter starts to get dirty.
Adding chain oil and fuel is quick and easy with Stihl’s easy to unscrew tank caps.
Chain tensioning is achieved on the Stihl MS170 by loosening two nuts (combination tool provided) and using the front chain tensioner.
The Stihl MS170 chainsaw is the perfect choice for anyone wanting a quality homeowner chainsaw at a budget price.
* Please note, cutting length will always be a little shorter than the bar length because of the way guide bars are measured. The difference between the guide bar length and cutting length varies by chainsaw model.
