Replacement Chainsaw Chains

In order to select the correct chain for your chainsaw, as a minimum, you need three pieces of information. These details should be available in the literature supplied with your chainsaw. In some cases, some or all of the details may be printed on the guide bar:-

- Chain pitch – this is the distance between two rivets divided by two and will typically be 1/4", 3/8”, .325” or .404”.
- Chain gauge – this is thickness of the chain, measured by the width of the drive links. Common gauges are .043” (1.1mm), .050” (1.3mm), .058” (1.5mm) and .063” (1.6mm).
- Chain length – this is measured by the number of drive links (the parts of the chain that run in the guide bar).
